He spent his early life in Portland and later moved to Tacoma, Washington, with his parents and brother. Ahmad Rashad joined the NFL draft in 1972 in St. Louis Cardinals and was on the UPI All-Rookie Team. After the the1973 season, he was traded to the Buffalo Bills in quarterback Dennis shaw, and because of his knee injury, he was out after the 1975 season. Ahmad trained with Seattle Seahawks and started his trade season with Minnesota Vikings. Ahmad had gained success with Vikings in his first season itself. And the team went to Super Bowl. Then he earned more than four pro bowls between 1978 to 1998. 

Then Ahmad left his career in NFL with 495 passes along with 6840 yards and 40 touchdowns. After that, he returned in 1980, played against Cleveland Browns, and received a quarterback Hail Mary pass with a 28-24 victory.

Ahmad is the person who has hosted NBA Inside Stuff for more than 16 seasons. In 2006, he hosted the talking show NBA Access with Ahmad on the ABC network channel and interviewed many celebrities like Vince Carter, Phil Jackson, and other personalities on that show. 

Ahmad also worked as a host on the Real Tv Channel in the reality show Video clip in 2000, and also, he has worked as a co-host for the shows Celebrity Mole and Caesars Challenge with host Dan Doherty. Then, in 2001, Ahmad hosted the game show Tug Of words on Game Show Network. Ahmad hosted the show Entrainment Tonight in 1988 along with Robb Weller, in which he had interviewed Michael Jordan.
